Abstract

Modification of the colorimetric procedures of Voges-Proskauer and Staron-Allard have been investigated which when used in conjunction with ion exchange chromatography permit the isolation and identification of a variety of guanidino derivatives. Utilizing these colorimetric techniques, a simple, quantitative approach has been developed for detecting and differentiating mono- and disubstituted guanidines in biological fluids. The effects of reagent concentration and reaction conditions for optimum color development are discussed.
