Abstract

Based on the most recent historiographic contributions on the Buenos Aires border, this article summarizes the application of border policies in Bourbon Buenos Aires. It is broadly encompassed from the 1730s until the beginning of the independence process in the 19th century, coinciding with the era of the so-called Bourbon reformism. A table on the occupational modalities of the border is offered, which were undoubtedly fundamental in colonization, such as missions, forts, towns, or peace treaties, which show an obstinate agenda in occupying the territory and controlling the native populations, but that also allow a more original reading about the cultural interactions between the native and western societies.
