Abstract

Changing budgetary support has given an opportunity for librarians to move to nine-month contractual work years. At Southern Oregon State College the change has been made and has worked successfully since 1972. Problems arise as a result of variations in administrative abilities and some lack in technical abilities, but these have been covered by utilizing high level para-professional personnel. The long range problcms appear to be caused by the inability of the collegial system to adequately reward librarians for doing work of exceptionally high quality in the library as well as in outside professional activities.
