Abstract

In quantum gravity, euclidean spacetime wormholes induce fluctuations of the spacetime topology. In the present paper, the collective dynamics and the clustering correlations of axionic wormholes is studied extensively. Mean field theory describing both the long range and the short range interactions among the instantons attached to our universe is Coulomb gas type with nonzero pressure due to generic short range repulsive potentials. Implications of the collective dynamics of instantons to the cosmological constant and the “big fix” of low-energy effective coupling constants are also discussed. An energetic tendency of large instanton dissociations into smaller ones is proposed as a resolution to the big wormhole puzzle.
