Abstract

The CART Initiative was established to address gaps in enabling and understanding how technology may better facilitate aging research across multiple functional domains and research settings. This presentation will present an overview of how CART has been organized to create an infrastructure supporting the build-out of extensible research capabilities around core functions for technology and human resource development, data accrual, analytics and dissemination, as well as establishing four demonstration sites encompassing older adults of low-income, African Americans, Spanish-speaking heritage and rural-residing veterans. A process of iterative refinement of the technologies and data systems along with capabilities for remote sensing and data capture informed by end users has been established. The first system or “platform V1.0” has been installed in multiple homes. After field testing at the four sites a year-long 250 home demonstration project will be completed to test the ability of the system to identify changes in independent living.
