Abstract

The Coffee Sands represent a beach deposited associated with a vast network of rivers draining the highlands of the Pascola Arch to the west along the margin of the Mississippi Embayment of the Cretaceous Interior Seaway in western Tennessee. The Coffee Sands occur only as ephemeral, discontinuous deposits capping ridges within the Western Highland Rim in western Tennessee and Kentucky. This paper describes an outcrop of the Coffee Sands along U.S. Hwy 140 just east of Buchanan, TN.
