Abstract

Studies of the adsorption of Cs and Ba individually onto an initially clean Mo(110) surface, and of the coadsorption of Cs onto preadsorbed Ba layers on Mo(110) are reported. Results include absolute work functions versus coverage data for Cs, for Ba, and for Cs on preadsorbed Ba, as well as terminal desorption energy determinations for Cs on various Ba precoverages on the Mo surface. These results are compared with those of previously reported studies of Cs and Ba adsorption onto transition metal surfaces. The presence of preadsorbed Ba decreases the effectiveness of Cs in reducing the surface work function and reduces the binding energy of subsequently adsorbed Cs.
