Abstract
Summary A questionnaire and interview survey of health education carried out in the secondary schools of one local education authority is described. The survey revealed that health education was both widely dispersed throughout the curriculum in the context of other subjects and across the pupil age range. An analysis of the health education provided in the schools indicated some agreement amongst teachers about the ages at which certain health topics are most appropriately taught. The co‐ordination of dispersed curriculum programmes is discussed, and some results are considered which throw light on the extent to which this was achieved in the health education taught in a sample of schools.
