Abstract

Unexpectedly small: The CoII crystal-field parameter in CoFe Prussian blue analogues is smaller than for any other octahedral CoII(high-spin) molecular entity and it seems to be determined by the geometry of the Co coordination polyhedron, which is imposed by weak and strong cooperative interactions within the 3D structure rather than by the chemical nature of the ligands (see picture).
