Abstract

Objective To explore the diagnosis and treatment of keratoconjunctivitis induced by toxic gas of paint.Methods The clinical features and treatments were concluded and analyzed about 29 cases (58 eyes) of keratoconjunctivitis induced by toxic gas of paint.Results All cases had clinical manifestion similar with electric ophthalmia.Most cases had corneal endothelial edema,some of which had delay healing of epithelia and epithelial infection.Clinical treatments included irrigation,pupil dilation by 1% atropine,local and systemic application of antibiotics,vitamin C and dexamethason,pressure dressing with antibiotic ointment in severe cases.All the therapeutic measures had good effects.Conclusion Patients with similar electric ophthalmia features and corneal endothelial edema or delayed healing of epithelia should be asked about toxic gas history to avoid misdiagnosis.These patients should be treated as chemical ophthalmia.
