Abstract
Objective To explore the clinical characteristics, fundus fluorescent angiography(FFA) features, B-scan ultrasonography,CT characteristics, the effects of treatmet and the visual prognosis of posterior scleritis. Methods The clinical data of 22 patients(22 eyes)with posterior scleritis were collected and exam-ined in our hospital from February 2002 to July 2007. The clinical characteristics, imaging features, results of laboratory examination, effect of treatment and the visual prognosis of the patients with posterior scleritis were observed. Results Among the 22 eyes of the 22 patients with posterior scleritis, there were 5 males and 17 fe-males,the average age was 32.4 years old.FFA examination showed the multiple pinpoint leakages at the early venous phase and the fluorescence leakage into the subretinal tissue at late phase of theangiography. B-scan ul-trasonography and CT scan showed the diffuse or nodules scleral thickenin gand optic nerve became coarse. All the patients responded well with oral corticosteroids and non-steroid anti-inflammatory agents. All the patients were recovery after the intensive treatment. The severe complications and decreased visual acuity of the cases were not seen. Conclusions Posterior scleritis was a rare type of scleral inflammation. The females were com-mon involved. The careful clinical examinations and imaging examinations could reduce the rates of misdiag-nosis.Eadier corrected diagnosis and treatment properly could prevent the disease from progressive. Key words: Posterior scleritis; Scleritis; Exudative retinal detachment
