Abstract

Objective To investigate the clinical application of the transurethral plasma electrocision with the balloon catheter in the treatment of traumatic anterior urethral stricture. Methods A total of 80 patients with urethral stricture were randomized into two groups: the observation group undergoing the transurethral plasma electrocision with the balloon catheter and the control group undergoing the transurethral plasma electrocision. Operating time, transoperative bleeding, postoperative out-of-bed activity time, detain ureter time, postoperative length of stay, postoperative complication, average flow rate, bladder residual urine volume and so forth were compared between the two groups. Results There were no significant differences in general clinical data, include age, pathogenesis, average flow rate, bladder residual urine volume, stenosis length between the two groups (P>0.05). In intraoperative condition, compared with the control group, operating time, bleeding, transoperative bleeding, postoperative out-of-bed activity time, detain ureter time were not significantly different (P>0.05). After operation, statistically significant differences were found for average flow rate, bladder residual urine volume (P 0.05). Conclusions The application of the transurethral plasma electrocision with the balloon catheter is operating convenient, safety and effectiveness for the treatment of traumatic anterior urethral stricture. It can accelerate clinical recovery, decrease the rate of postoperative complications, less pain and high success rate, be thus worthy of promotion and application. Key words: Urethral Stricture; Electrosurgery
