The clinical application of the Clarus Video System--guided tracheal intubation

Abstract

Background The Clarus Video System(CVS) designed by Clarus Medical is a novel fibreoptic intubating device.With a LCD and J shape stylet, it features both fiberoptic bronchoscopy and lightwand. CVS plays a very important role in normal intubation as well as dealing with difficult airway in foreign country. Objective A clear understanding of structure of it, preparing work before intubation, manoeuvres, clinical use, problems and countermeasures in practise can improve the effectiveness of using CVS. Content Introduce the structure of CVS, preparing work before intubation, manoeuvres, clinical uses (in normal airway and difficult airway as well as modified method), problems and countermeasures in practise. Trend As a new fibreoptic stylet, CVS is an effective intubating device no matter in processing normal airway and difficult airway, single-lumen/double-lumen endotracheal intubation, rapid induction intubation or awake intubation. But clinical physicians should make decisions in accordance with specific conditions. Key words: Clarus video system; Tracheal intubation; Difficult airway
