Abstract

This chapter focuses on Mexican civil and commercial codes. The central concept of the civil codes is that a code is a complete and comprehensive statement of all laws relevant to a given subject. Civil codes serve an almost constitutional function in defining private rights, and all other laws affecting the activities of persons and corporations are grounded in the codes. Commercial codes cover basic areas of commerce including commercial transportation of goods by land, maritime commerce, bankruptcy and suspension of payment, and commercial procedure.
