Abstract
Low- and high-energy photoelectron spectroscopy demonstrates that ethylene and halogeno-substituted alkenes adsorb irreversibly and dissociatively on a Fe(111) single crystal surface at 300 K. Carbon-carbon bond breaking of acetylene is observed at low coverage and 300 K, the chemisorption régime at higher coverages being more complex.
