Abstract
A filament of tantalum monocarbide has been found to chemisorb hydrogen with an uptake that was independent of the pressure of hydrogen between 1.5 × 10 −8 Torr and 1.6 × 10 −7 Torr. The rate of adsorption had a first order dependence on the pressure of hydrogen and the reaction was non-activated. The sticking probability declined linearly with increasing uptake of hydrogen, from which it was concluded that no mobile, physisorbed precursor to chemisorption was formed.
