Abstract

Summary form only given. Moving magnet generators are compact pulsed power systems used to generate initial energy and to seed flux compressor generators. The generation of high current and high voltage pulses is the result of the motion of the ferromagnetic projectile inside of pulse generating coils. The results are presented of experimental studies of moving magnet generators and detailed computer simulation of the devices. Special attention was paid to the charging and integrating modes of pulse power generation. The experimental study was performed with the use of a light gas gun. Data are given for the amplitude of high voltage and high current pulses for different designs of the devices, the effect of various windings on the pulse-generating coils, and different types of loads. Results are presented of detailed simulations of all modes of pulse power generation and optimization of all parts of the moving magnet system.
