Abstract

The presence of particular redox states of multivalent elements in glasses {and in glass forming melts} control important physical as well as chemical properties of the glasses {and their corresponding melts}. Although the multivalent elements in glass-forming systems are typically the same as those encountered in aqueous solutions, the characterization of these elements in their various redox states may be quite different in the two solvent systems.
