Abstract

To understand the growth mechanism of high Tc superconductors (HTS) on the metal buffer is important for device and wire applications. Furthermore we have studied crystal orientation and superconducting properties. It was reported that the YBCO films grown directly on Pt buffer had poor superconductivity. In this report, we have prepared YBCO films with Pt buffer layers by pulsed laser deposition (PLD) method. And we have investigated the relationship with the growth mechanism of YBCO films and the metal buffer layer deposited on MgO(100) substrate. Firstly we controlled orientation and surface flatness of Pt layer. We examined the crystal orientation of Pt and YBCO on the Pt buffer. And we examine the relationship between the thickness of the films and superconducting properties. The YBCO films showed superconducting transition temperature (Tc0) at 91K on Pt buffer layer. Therefore we conclude that Pt films can be used a noble layer for the YBCO thin films.
