Abstract

It is one of major factors that is to evaluate the characteristics of the heavy metals present in the soil for determining treatment options. In this study, the contamination level of heavy metals contaminated in the former prison site was figured by aqua regia and sequential extraction method based on particle size. Heavy metal contents were measured by dividing the soil in six areas by particle size. (They were evaluated) by regional 1 in the worrisome level of soil contamination of Soil Environmental Conservation Act. The arsenic and zinc contents exceeded the standard value in NB-03, 04, 06 and NB-03, respectively. As a result of sequential extraction, most of heavy metal bonded form were step three (Fe / Mn-oxides form) and stage five (residual form). They are low mobility in the natural environment or strongly bonded with soil particles. In accordance with the smaller particle size of the soil, heavy metal content is the higher. Heavy were metals cou;d be adsorbed more because of the larger specific surface area of the fine soil. Therefore, in this study, it was confirmed that heavy metal contamination of soil is affected by soil particle size.
