Abstract

The coastal landscape ecosystem is a sensitive part of the change, for better or worse. The damage that occurs in the area will have a very serious impact on the survival of the coastal landscape ecosystem. In addition, the coastal landscape has dynamic physical changes every time. The coastal landscape management system must consider its characteristics to achieve this sustainability. This study aimed to analyze the characteristics of the Simeulue Island coastal landscape ecosystem that provides a capacity for community needs. The knowledge and information on the characteristics found are very important for determining policy directions in the sustainable management of the coastal landscape of Simeulue Island. Simeulue Island was hit by a smong (tsunami) twice, in 1907 and 2004, and it impacted the coastal landscape ecosystem. This study used a survey method with stages consisting of preparation, inventory, analysis, and recommendations. The recommendation is to pursue an increase in the amount of coconut and mangrove vegetation. It is obvious that these types of plants overcome seawater abrasion and maintain the quality of water absorption on Simeulue Island.
