Abstract

Abstract The character and role of grain boundaries in NdFeB alloys and magnets are described and discussed. The role of the grain boundaries in the hydrogen decrepitation process is considered and the influence of the character and mobility of grain boundaries on the properties of fully dense sintered magnets is described. Grain boundaries also play an important role in the hydrogenation disproportionation desorption and recombination process whereby the coarse grain, cast material is converted to very fine grain particles.
