Abstract
During the last few years, both the theory and the practice of anti‐racism in Britain have been undergoing a reappraisal. The following symposium is offered as a contribution to these ongoing debates. It begins with an essay by Tariq Modood, one of the principal critics inside the anti‐racist camp, which is followed by responses by Michael Banton, Phil Cohen, David Gillborn and Kalbir Shukra, who are all‐for diverse reasons‐sympathetic critics of certain strands in British anti‐racism.
