Abstract
The change-over to computer-based technology curricula is occurring in regular and special education settings. Microcomputer technology is beginning to play a significant role in early childhood special education programs as well. Although few programs are on the forefront of having already implemented a computer-based curriculum, change-over from traditional teaching methods to new computer technology has profound implications for teachers as well as students. The literature is reviewed and recommendations are made for early childhood educators regarding training, teaching strategies, software selection, and new applications found to benefit children with special needs. The necessity of joint endeavors by educational institutions, business, and industry is discussed in terms of utilizing and developing new technologies (e.g., hypermedia, interactive videodisc, CD ROM) for the early childhood special education classroom.
