Abstract

This study aims to research the change aspects of degree adverbs that have been displayed in the 20th century modern Korean. In this study, the spoken Korean data of the 20th century were analyzed to observe the aspects of degree adverbs. The results of the study, the use of ‘peok, neomuna, cham’ is reduced, ‘aju, jeongmal’ is increased in the 20th century spoken data. Also ‘deoge’ is newly appeared and duplicationd of degree adverbs are enlarged in the latter part of the 20th century. The results of the observation on the attributes of incresed or reduced use of degree adverbs is shown that the use of degree adverbs with semantic or syntactic constraints is reduced and the use of degree adverbs with no constraints or such constraints excluded is incresed. In addition, changes in the attribute appeard like duplication of degree adverb for lifting to strengthen the intent of the speaker, a new words with the usage of the degree adverbs were used.
