Abstract
ABSTRACTDesalinating water through reverse osmosis is becoming more economically affordable. Identifying the challenges in adopting desalination technology may help countries address water security concerns. In this article, we examine these challenges and present some of the solutions implemented in the Kingdom of Jordan, such as the creation of a cooperative water project to reduce financial investment and transportation costs and the coupling of renewable energy to desalination technology. Reverse osmosis desalination can play a role in promoting regional cooperation.
