Abstract

While in practice, Televisi Republik Indonesia (TVRI) is still considered a state-owned broadcaster, its organization and management are rife with authoritarian regimes. This study aims to investigate and analyze internal conflicts within TVRI from the perspective of its actors and agency. In-depth interviews were conducted with seven TVRI employees, employing a case study approach based on critical media’s political-economy framework. The research delves into the employees’ responses to the conflicts arising during TVRI’s debureaucratizing process. The analysis highlights that one of the significant challenges in TVRI’s debureaucratizing is the resistance from within the organization.
