Abstract
Abstract The study presented in this chapter examined and assessed the challenges of climate change and its impact on seven selected coastal communities in Nigeria's Niger Delta region. The study proposed that there is no strong relationship between adverse climate change and sustainable development in the coastal communities. Contrary to this hypothesis, the study found that climate change has adversely impacted the livelihood (local economy) of Niger Delta coastal communities. This has, in turn, impacted negatively on health and security, as well as exacerbated the poverty level of the people to as high as 85%.
