Abstract

TCP/IP is known to be one of the important services of the Nordic University Network called NORDUnet. In this paper the NORDUnet strategy is discussed, and the role of TCP/IP within this strategy is assessed. The migration problems of TCP/IP are also briefly summarized. Furthermore the author points to the growing importance of TCP/IP in Europe, as several national and international networks in Europe have chosen to support TCP/IP as an interim. He asserts that the migration problems of TCP/IP should be not be regarded exclusively as a US problem, but as a major problem also within the European networking community.
