Abstract

The catalogue of the department "Radioactive standard specimens" [1] lists a set of specimen sources and[ solutions of 53 different radionuclides. The main materials for the standard specimens -radioactive solutions -are supplied by the department and other Hungarian and foreign firms and organizations (Table i). An important controlled characteristic of these solutions is the radioisotope impurity. For example, along-lived radionuclideimpurity in a solution of a radionuclide with a short halflife makes it unsuitable for manufacturing standard specimens. Field solutions are checked in the following order: the mass of the solution is measured, the radionuclide is identified, the radioisotope impurity is determined, and the radioactive concentration is checked. Before use the main solution is filtered and diluted to the required concentration.
