Abstract
The successive governments in India after independence have been thriving hard through its expanding expenditure to augment the growth of the country both economically and socially. These concrete efforts were formidable to leap India forward after being tangled in the British colonial rule for nearly two centuries. The path in front of us is long before we could transform ourselves into a strong nation. An analytical introspection is essential into the expenditure profile of the central government to understand the leakages and redundancy to effectively deploy the revenue collected through tax and non tax methods. The expenditure profile is classified into different heads to enumerate the essentiality and necessity of these expenditure. This would help us to get an eagle eye view of funds flow and its utilization. This critical review would help us make corrective and structural transformation in the expenditure pattern to bring about efficacy in the distribution of revenue to various heads thus acting as a catalyst towards attaining the goal of economic growth and social development thus elevating our country in all frontiers and projecting us among the world top nations.
