Abstract

This chapter talks about centennial of first international peace conference. It deals with reports included in this book in order of 1899: (1) law relating to disarmament and arms control; (2) laws of armed conflict; (3) dispute settlement. It also summarizes issue of small arms and other conventional weapons came up again recently in a report of Secretary-General to Security Council on role of UN peacekeeping in disarmament, demobilisation and reintegration. The mandate of Truth Commission was to investigate the serious acts of violence that have occurred since 1980, whose impact on society urgently requires that truth about them be made known to public.
