Abstract
The cell to dendrite transition during Pb-Sb alloy solidification was characterized by a gradual and continuous change in the cell cross-section rather than by the sudden growth of periodic secondary branches. The cellular-dendrites grew initially as straight columns of cruciform cross-section, and tended to align into rows parallel to (100) type planes. It was argued that this type of transition would be found in other cubic metal alloys.
