Abstract

Summary The treatment of Feakins and French of primary medium effects for the determination of primary hydration numbers of electrolytes has been applied to a series of homologous electrolytes (hydrochloric, hydrobromic, and hydriodic acids) in water-rich dioxane-water media. The hydration numbers found correlate correctly with the varying sizes of halide ions, and are in good agreement with earlier literature data obtained by different methods. The main features of the present method are considered.
