Abstract

A model of a plant cell as an integral physical and physiochemical water-dependent system with a maximal degree of complexity and full set of functions is proposed. This model makes it possible to analyze any simply arranged cell at any degree of reduction, including animal cells. The model justifies the priority of the high-molecular-weight component of cell cytoplasmic solution in the establishment of internal and functional (turgor) pressures in the following order: genome → protein (quality and quantity) → functional (turgor) pressure → cell internal pressure → cell water content. Gradually decreasing internal and functional pressures lead to a lethal outcome for the cell.
