Abstract

At the beginning of the 20th century a programme was established between university libraries in Prussia in order to improve literature and information supply for the universities and related research institutions. Libraries had come to the conclusion that the increasing demands of research could only be served by a cooperative collection development programme where selected libraries were responsible for predefined scientific disciplines.Thirty libraries are involved in the programme today. Within the programme, participating libraries are responsible for a far-reaching and comprehensive collection development arrangement and for facilitating non-restricted participation in interlibrary loan. Many yncertainties arose with the onslaught of CDROM products.
