Abstract

The bulk of this chapter is devoted to the fundamental theorem in analytic PDE theory and one of the most important mathematical discoveries of the XIXth century: that the Cauchy problem for an analytic, fully nonlinear PDEs, with Cauchy data on a noncharacteristic hypersurface Σ has a unique analytic solution in a sufficiently small neighborhood of an arbitrary point of Σ.
