Abstract

The catalytic influence of benzoate in the pH range 4.0–4.5 and of o-chlorobenzoate in the pH range 3.0–4.0 on the complex formation of chromium(III) with EDTA has been established. An increase of the reaction rate by a factor of about 10–20 has been observed. This allows a considerable reduction of the reaction time and/or the excess of EDTA which is otherwise necessary.
