Abstract
To Dr. Wolf W. Zuelzer, Wayne University State College of Medicine, Detroit :—Your editorial in theAmerican Journal of Diseases of Children, July, 1960, edition, was read by us with a great deal of interest and dissatisfaction. For an associate editor of a journal of the American Medical Association, which is the official voice of our group, to condemn the Pediatricians of this country is rather appalling. It would seem that you expressed the opinion condemning Pediatricians for using iron-dextran complex (Imferon) as a matter of convenience rather than for well reasoned indications. The implication that economics and convenience have taken precedent over scientific and basic moral responsibilities of practicing Pediatricians seems unfair. To condemn an entire group when we are all faced with the problem of public relations and the ever-increasing demand for socialized medicine because of such misunderstandings seems very much out of place at this time.
