Abstract

Following discovery of microscopic hematuria at a medical appointment for French army enrollment, a 20-year-old Caucasian man was referred for a nephrology consultation. He had no medical or surgical history, was not taking any medication, and did not smoke, but he had travelled to Mali in the previous 6 months. Notably, his mother had recently experienced microscopic hematuria. There was no other urological or nephrological family history, and no consanguinity. The patient had not experienced any episodes of macroscopic hematuria, urinary tract infection, or renal colic.
