Abstract
The article discusses historic opposition to Nicolaus Copernicus' theory that the Earth revolves around the sun based on scientific observation rather than theology. Topics include the opposing "geoheliocentric" theory of Danish astronomer Tycho Brahe, calculations of star size, and the observations of Italian astronomer Giovanni Battista Riccioli.
