Abstract
The result of a new experimental determination of the capture cross section of protons for slow neutrons is briefly reported. It is σh=0·327±0·004 barns and is obtained by a comparison with the absorption of boron for slow neutrons. A survey is presented of various direct and indirect methods for determining the neutron–proton capture cross section and the final value resulting from their inter-comparison is σh=0·3315±0·0017 barns.
