Abstract

The article looks for the perspectives of professional foster care development in line with the current deinstitutionalization reform of orphanhood in Russia and the broader context of modern childcare standards. Structuring the experience of Russia and other countries we used in-depth interviews with foster parents as the empirical base. Based on the interviews, we discuss the place that professional foster care might take in Russia's existing orphanage system and describe the pitfalls/possibilities of this institute. In conclusion, specific recommendations are offered on the successful implementation of the key features of foster families in Russia.
