Abstract
The article presents information about the Frank A. Calderone Prize in Public Health and also notes several winners of the award since 1992. The international award is named for Dr. Frank A. Calderone, a pioneer in public health who considered public health a cornerstone of civilization. The article notes the first recipient was former U.S. Surgeon General C. Everett Koop. Topics include the organizations and agencies represented on the selection committee and the achievements of the 2011 recipient Harvey Fineberg, president of the Institute of Medicine (IOM).
