Preston, George Abstract A rigorous method of computing the pulsation constant, Q, from photometric observations of variable stars is applied to the data for forty-six RR Lyrae stars in M3, using relations between color index and effective temperature suggested for solar-type main-sequence stars and for unbianketed models. A simpler method that gives nearly identical results is also described. The values of Q and the ratio (Q / (Q depend on the effective temperature scale that is employed; an increase in Q-values for RR Lyrae stars in M3 with the longest periods is found to be insensitive to the choice of a temperature scale. The possibility that the RR Lyrae stars in M3 do not constitute a homologous family of variable stars is discussed briefly.
