Abstract

An ionosonde in a vehicle immersed in the plasma above the peak of the F2 layer of the ionosphere measures, as a function of frequency f, the virtual depth h′ below the vehicle at which radio waves are reflected from the topside of the ionosphere. In this paper, a method is presented for converting the observed topside h′(f) curves into electron density profiles.
