Abstract

AbstractAn analysis is given of precision data sets describing the zx‐ and zy‐plane angular variation of the 9.396 GHz, 292.2 K EPR spectra for 0.5% Gd3+ impurity ions in both, the nonahydrated and nonadeuterated lanthanum ethyl sulfate host lattices. This analysis parameterized the spectral data to both a phenomenological spin Hamiltonian and a restricted symmetry‐adapted generalized spin Hamiltonian with C3h symmetry zero field splitting terms. It reports more precise values for the g‐factors and zero field splitting parameters for Gd3+ ions in the nonahydrated lattice than available previously and, for the first time, the values of these factors and parameters for the nonadeuterated lattice.
