Abstract

For the first time, grain boundary diffusion of a solute is measured in a single grain boundary in the C kinetic regime after common Harrison’s classification. The radiotracer technique is used to determine the 110 m Ag diffusion coefficients in Cu Σ5 (310) [0 0 1] bicrystal along and perpendicular to the [0 0 1] misorientation axis. The anisotropy of grain boundary diffusion increases slightly with decreasing temperature. However, it remains moderate, within a factor of two to three for the temperature interval studied.
