Abstract

Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach is the most important composer of the past 400 years whose complete works have not yet been published in a scholarly critical edition. A new collected edition is now being prepared under the auspices of the Packard Humanities Institute in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Although we cannot fully predict the future development of technology, the edition plans to utilize the capabilities of electronic music publishing and information retrieval.
