Abstract
The CN stretching frequency in seventeen substituted salicylidene aniline—copper (II) complexes is assigned both in the solid state and in solution. In Nujol mulls, the CN stretching frequency is found at 1603–1616 cm −1, while in methylene chloride solution, the band is shifted slightly to 1602–1612 cm −1. In the copper (II) complexes, the phenolic CO appears in the region 1310–1330 cm −1 as compared to 1265–1288 cm −1 in the free anils.
